Will Present how: Project Specifications don’t address concrete appearance and they often leave out any form of surface defects including concrete discoloration.  Concrete surface often discolors for many reasons, some of those reasons can be beneficial to the long term life of the concrete.  Some reasons for concrete discoloration can be related too the materials and procedures use to place and finish the concrete.  In this presentation we will review some projects where concrete discoloration was evaluated and provide insight in to the potential reasons for the discoloration.

Alfred is currently the Concrete Technical Leader and Principal Engineer at Braun Intertec.  He over sees forensics on concrete failures, development of new products and conducts trouble shooting on construction projects.  Previously he has worked in the cement industry as a Technical Service Engineer for Holcim (US).  He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from University of Ottawa.  He is a registered Professional Engineer in Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ohio.  He is the past chair of the ACI Committee 221 – Aggregates.  He is also a member of ASTM committee CO9.
